My Pinterest Easter board is brimming with egg decorating projects that I have been meaning to do so I thought I would knock over three in one.
Well actually it was supposed to be four (failed project from here) but either I didn’t follow the instructions or it’s harder than it sounds!
The basics are the same for all three projects.
What you need:
Hard-boiled or blown eggs (white if possible as it shows the colour best. I got my white eggs at Norton St Grocer)
Deep plastic bowls or takeaway containers
For each colour dye you need 2 cups water, 1/3 cup white vinegar and 1 tablespoon food colouring
Plastic gloves if you don’t want stained fingers.
Combine water, vinegar and colouring in a bowl. Use a spoon to dip eggs in dye for 3-5 minutes, or until they reach the colour you want. Place on paper towels to dry.
The rubber band method
Wrap small rubber bands around the eggs before dyeing. Remove rubber bands once dry.
The two-tone method
Use your fingers to dip part of the egg in dye. Allow to dry before dipping in another colour.
The crayon method
Use a white crayon to write or draw patterns on the egg before dyeing.
