When we were in Venice on our honeymoon we drank lots and lots of spritzs. They were so refreshing and not too alcoholic and there is just something about sitting by the canal on a sunny afternoon watching the gondolas float by while sipping on a bright red spritz. When I came home I thought I would try and recreate my favourite one – the prosecco spritz – and it turned out pretty well!
A spritz consists of 1 part bitter – either campari or aperol (aperol is slightly sweeter), 1 part white wine or prosecco, 1 part soda water and then it is garnished with a green olive and either an orange or lemon slice.
It is a perfect spring afternoon drink me thinks so I shall be whipping up a batch this weekend.
1/3 cup prosecco (Italian sparkling wine)
1/3 cup aperol
1/3 cup soda water
1 green Sicilian olive
1/2 slice of orange
Combine the prosecco, aperol and soda water in a glass. Add the olive (on a stick if you have one), orange slice and ice cubes. And of course sip it through a fancy striped straw.
Makes 1 but can easily be multiplied.
