Ever since Ipuddo hit our shores late last year I have been hearing about these melt-in-your-mouth, Momofuku-knock-off pork buns. There have been pics all over Instagram and it has been making me insanely jealous. And yes, Ipdduo is actually known best for its ramen soups around the world but it was the pork buns that were calling my name.
So last week, after a bit of late night shopping we joined the queues of hungry hordes and waited our turn. Luckily we didn’t have to wait too long as you can order the pork buns at the bar. Our intention was just to get one pork bun each ($4) and then wait for a table so we could try the ramen and other goodies. But the first bun came, and it was so freaking delicious! The bun was a soft cloud of bread enveloping a slice of tender, sweet and a tiny bit spicy pork with a squeeze of mayo and a little lettuce for crunch. It was the perfect mouthful (or three).
Then, as my husband decided he could fit just another one in before dinner, I decided to stay strong, just some edamame for me please. Until his bun arrived. I watched him eat it and wanted to grab it out of his hand. It was at that point we told the maitre d’ that we no longer needed the table and were just going to order more pork buns for dinner thank you. Once they realised our dedication, one of the waiters came over to tell us about a meeting they had recently. Apparently the employees were eating so many pork buns that they were selling out really really early in the night. So there was now a staff limit on pork buns. I told you they were good!
So seven buns, a bowl of edamame and some sesame cucumber (as a nod to greens) later, we were thoroughly satiated. Although I probably could have eaten one more…..
Have you guys tried these delicious buns yet?
