When coming up with a V-day present this year I was inspired by a craft project I saw on instagram – hand-decorated dishes.
It looked pretty simple to do (right up my alley!) so I gave it a go. What do you think?
You will have to excuse my not so great drawing skills (perhaps a stencil might be a good idea next time?) but I think he will be pretty happy with his breakfast set come February 14th.
What you need:
Red Porcelaine pen (or other china paint pen) – I got this from Spotlight
Pieces of china of your choice – I got mine from a hot dollar shop
Nail polish remover and cotton buds
An oven
Press the pen down on some paper to start the paint flowing. Draw decorations of your choice on the dishes. If you make a mistake, don’t worry! Just dip a cotton bud in nail polish remover and wipe it off. Leave the dishes to dry for 24 hours. Bake in a 150°C (conventional) oven for 35 minutes, or follow the pen instructions if you have a different brand. Your thoughtful gift is now done! And the best part is, you can even put them through the dishwasher and the pattern will remain.
Of course you don’t just have to do this for V-day. Why not try big yellow polka dots on a platter, or name everyone’s dinner plate?
